Paul Tufano Delivers Keynote Address on the Future of Medicaid
National Conference on Medicaid
On October 17, our Chairman and CEO, Paul Tufano, delivered a keynote address at the America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) National Conference on Medicaid in Washington, D.C.
In his remarks, titled “Preserving Medicaid for Future Generations,” Mr. Tufano spoke about our commitment not just as managed care companies, but as citizens, to work for equality and inclusion in healthcare. Given the current debates around Medicaid, it is our duty to:
- Debunk the myths and stereotypes around Medicaid recipients and the poor in general.
- Demonstrate the success of Medicaid programs as a way to improve population health and reduce poverty.
- Embrace innovative, collaborative value-based care programs that bring the states, federal government, and private sector together to give members better access to the services and supports they need.
- Create integrated care models that treat the whole person, including the social determinants of health that produce so many health problems and disparities among the poor.
By removing politics from Medicaid — and health care in general — and focusing on the successes and potential of Medicaid to move people from poverty to prosperity, we can help secure it for future generations.
