AmeriHealth Caritas Teams Up with Indiana First Lady Maureen Braun to Bring Healthy Hoops® to Central Indiana Children
With a new school year underway and basketball season fast approaching, AmeriHealth Caritas, Indiana First Lady Maureen Braun, and the Boys & Girls Club of Boone County teamed up to help children in central Indiana stay in class and on the hardwood. AmeriHealth Caritas brought Healthy Hoops, its signature health education program, to Lebanon for an event with First Lady Braun at Boys & Girls Club of Boone County Lebanon Unit’s after school program.
More than 50 children learned about literacy, avoiding asthma triggers, and adopting healthy habits.
“Building healthy communities also means educating and empowering people of all ages to take charge of their health. This is what AmeriHealth Caritas has done for more than 40 years, and Healthy Hoops helps us accomplish this through fun and engaging events across the country,” said AmeriHealth Caritas Senior Vice President Joyce Rogers. “We are grateful to First Lady Braun and the Boys & Girls Club of Boone County for helping us bring this program to central Indiana so that it can provide the same benefits to the lives of children here.”
Attendees played basketball, heard from First Lady Braun, read books from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and enjoyed health-focused musical entertainment from Rapping About Prevention.
“Healthy Hoops shows us the power of combining fun, fitness, and learning to help our children thrive. I am grateful to AmeriHealth Caritas for inviting me to be a part of such a special event today,” said Braun. “As a mother and grandmother, I know how important it is to encourage young Hoosiers to build strong, healthy habits.”

AmeriHealth Caritas also hosted a Healthy Hoops event with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne for kids in northeast Indiana earlier this year. It has worked with other Boys & Girls Clubs, and similar organizations serving children, throughout the country to bring the program to more than 60,000 children and their families since 2002.
“We are honored to be part of this special event alongside the First Lady and AmeriHealth Caritas,” said Eric Richards, CEO, Boys & Girls Club of Boone County. “This partnership is about investing in the future of Boone County’s kids and we couldn’t be more excited about this incredible opportunity.”
