Tackling Hunger in North Texas: AmeriHealth Caritas Funds 75,000 Meals Through North Texas Food Bank

AmeriHealth Caritas, a national leader in Medicaid managed care and other health care solutions for those most in need, recently provided funding for 75,000 meals to feed food insecure North Texans through the North Texas Food Bank and the non-profit organization’s annual Nourish North Texas Telethon. In addition to the financial support, AmeriHealth Caritas associates volunteered to staff phones during the telethon.

According to North Texas Food Bank, nearly 640,000 North Texas residents face food insecurity.¹ Feeding America research shows that a healthy diet comprising a variety of nutritious foods is essential to every person’s physical and mental health.²

The North Texas Food Bank is a top-ranked hunger-relief organization that sources, packages, and distributes food through a network of nearly 500 food pantries and community organizations across 13 North Texas counties. The organization also provides food to children, seniors, and families through various direct-delivery programs, including mobile pantries.

“Food security is a critical social determinant of health, and North Texas Food Bank does great work to address this issue,” said AmeriHealth Caritas Regional President Kathy Warner. “We are proud to support North Texas Food Bank and share its commitment to building communities without hunger.”
